Salmon in Singapore: Which Salmon Cut to Buy for Home Meals

For everyday home meals, buy salmon as portioned fillets: 150 to 200G pieces for one, up to 1 KG packed into four packets for the week. Choose belly for the richest bites, tail for better value, heads and bones for soup, and a whole salmon when you want a freezer full of portions cut the way you like. We sell two salmon, both from Norway: Atlantic salmon and salmon trout. Here is how the cuts compare and what to order for each kind of meal.

Atlantic salmon or salmon trout?

Atlantic salmon Salmon trout
Taste Rich and buttery Rich, slightly oilier
Texture Soft and flaky Slightly firmer
Fillets cut from Fish of 5 KG and above Fish of 4 KG and above
Good for Pan frying, baking, air frying; the less oily choice Pan frying, grilling, baking, air frying; for people who like a stronger flavour

Our fillet comparison sets both against cod, threadfin and the other fillets we cut.

Which salmon cut should I buy?

Cut What you get Best for

Salmon tail About 500G of Norwegian salmon, left whole or cut into steak slices Air frying and grilling; it costs less than fillet only because fewer people ask for it

Salmon bones Salmon frames for stock Salmon broth for porridge, noodles or miso soup
Whole Atlantic salmon or whole salmon trout The whole fish, filleted and deboned into the portion size, slabs, slices or chunks you choose; the head, bones and belly are yours too Filling the freezer for a few weeks of meals

What should I order for different meals?

  • Quick dinners for one or two: Small (150 to 200G) or Standard (250 to 300G) fillets, frozen in single portions.
  • Children: fillets cut into child sized chunks. We debone by hand with care, but always check for small bones before serving.
  • Steamboat with a grill plate: thin slices, alongside the firm fish in our steamboat guide.
  • A week of meals: the 1 KG option packed into four packets, or a whole salmon cut into portions.
  • Soup: salmon bones with a head for a fuller broth.

How is whole salmon priced?

A whole salmon is priced at the middle of its size band (for example 4.5 KG for the 4 to 4.9 KG option). We weigh the fish on delivery day and tell you if it is bigger or smaller, so you only pay for what you get. Every order works the same way: we weigh each item and you pay the confirmed total after delivery. See delivery days, charges and payment.

How do I keep salmon portions?

Cook what you need within two days and freeze the rest the day it arrives. For freezing, you can ask for fillets to be vacuum sealed at checkout. Our storage guide explains freezing and safe thawing, including the extra step for vacuum sealed fish.
